On December 4, 2024, the first study session for the Tohoku Tourist Information Center Networking Project was held in Akita City, Akita Prefecture. Three staff members from the Sendai Tourist Information Desk participated in the session. We’d like to post a report of our experience on our blog in three individual sections
2024年12月4日に東北の観光案内所ネットワーク化事業 第1回研修会が秋田市で開催され、仙台ツーリストインフォメーションデスクからスタッフ３名が研修に参加しました。その様子を3回にわたってお届けします。
This is the final section of our report. I’m Tanino from the Sendai Tourist Information Desk. In this final part, I would like to share the content of this session from the perspective of “Historical and Cultural City Walk Tourism”.
最終回はTaninoが担当します。「歴史と文化をいかしたまち歩き観光」の視点から、今回の研修を振り返りたいと思います。
After lunch. we visited the Akita City Machinaka Tourist Information Center. It is located in Tomachi (the Outer Town). About a 10-minute walk from Akita Station lies Senshu Park, where Kubota Castle was built in 1604 by Yoshinobu Satake, the first lord of Kubota Domain. Surrounding the castle, he also made a castle town which was divided into two areas: the Inner Town (Uchimachi), home to the samurai residences of the Satake family retainers, and the Outer Town (Tomachi), where merchants and artisans lived. Today, popular sightseeing spots such as Senshu Park and Akita Citizen’s Market are located in the Inner Town, while the Outer Town has also historical sites such as the Old Kaneko Family House and the Red Brick Folk Museum. The Akita City Machinaka Tourist Information Center was set up to tell tourists the charms of the Outer Town.
私たちが昼食後に訪問したのは「秋田市まちなか観光案内所」です。秋田駅から徒歩約10分のところに千秋公園があります。千秋公園には約400年前、佐竹義宜が築城した久保田城がありました。周辺に作られた城下町には、旭川を挟んで、佐竹家の家臣をはじめとする侍屋敷が軒を連ねた内町と、商人や職人などが住んだ外町がありました。内町エリアには、現在、千秋公園、秋田市民市場などの有名観光スポットがあります。外町エリアにも、旧金子家住宅や赤れんが郷土館など歴史を感じさせる素敵なスポットがいくつもあります。外町エリアの魅力を発信しているのが、「秋田市まちなか観光案内所」です。
The Machinaka Tourist Information Center is housed in a beautiful Western-style building with an arched entrance. The building used to be Akita’s first department store “Oshima Trading Company Store”, built in 1901. In 2021, the building was relocated and reopened as the tourist information center. About 3,400 of the original 44,000 bricks were reused in the building’s facade, preserving the Meiji-era aesthetic. Inside, you’ll find a wide variety of maps, leaflets and brochures for Akita City and surrounding areas in Akita Prefecture. The center also has a rest space for town walks. If you follow their Instagram account, you can try gachapon and receive a special badge.
入り口がアーチ状の素敵な洋館は1901年に県内初の百貨店として建てられた「旧大島商会店舗」で、2021年に現在の場所に移築し「まちなか観光案内所」としてオープンしました。移築の際に剥がしたレンガは約44,000枚で、そのうちの約3,400枚を建物の前面に再利用しているため、明治時代の趣が感じられます。中に入ると秋田市内や県内各地の観光パンフレットがずらりと並んでいました。周辺の観光情報を入手したり、まち歩きの休憩所としてもご利用いただけます。インスタをフォローするとガチャポンで缶バッチがもらえますよ！

The final visit was the Former Matsukura Family Residence, where we held a discussion session in a renovated rice storehouse.
研修の最後に訪問したのは、旧松倉家住宅です。米蔵を改装した会議室で意見交換会を行いました。
At first, I’d like to tell you about the historical road “Ushu Highway”. The Ushu Highway, developed during the Edo period, was a major route in the Tohoku region, branching off from the Oshu Highway in Fukushima and running through Miyagi, Yamagata, and Akita before reaching Aomori.
この旧松倉家住宅を語る前に、羽州街道についてご紹介します。江戸時代に整備された街道のひとつである羽州街道は、奥州街道と共に東北地方の大動脈でした。奥州街道から福島県の桑折で分岐し、宮城県を経て奥羽山脈を越え、山形県と秋田県を北上し、青森県の油川につながる交通や流通の要であった歴史の道でした。
The Matsukura family, a merchant family that started in 1749, engaged in oil sales during the Edo period and later expanded into grain trading and became prominent landowners during the Meiji era. The residence, located at the intersection of the Ushu and Sakata Highways, includes structures such as Main House (1906), Rice Storehouse (pre-1839), Storehouse (1866), and Protective Shelter (late Meiji period). This large townhouse, representative of Akita’s architectural style from the late Edo period, was designated an Akita Prefectur.Today, the Former Matsukura Family Residence hosts various events such as workshops and lectures, offering a relaxing space to reflect on Akita’s history.
松倉家は1749年頃に始まる商家で、江戸時代は油屋を営み、明治時代初期からは大地主で穀物の取り扱いなども行っていました。旧松倉家住宅は城下町の南に位置しており、「羽州街道」と「酒田街道」が交わる所にありました。主屋（1906年）、米蔵（1839年以前）、文庫蔵（1866年）、覆屋（明治末期）からなる旧松倉家住宅は、江戸時代後期以降の秋田の町家形式をよく伝える県内最大級の大型町家として、2017年に秋田県有形文化財に指定されました。城下町の趣を今日に伝える貴重な文化遺産となっています。今は、講座やワークショップなど様々なイベントが開催されています。昔の秋田に思いをはせながら、くつろぎの時間を過ごすことができる空間です。
